Hang-glider rescued from clifftop - Newcastle East

ONLOOKERS at Bar Beach held their breath as rescuers tried to reach a hang-glider clinging 50metres above rocks to the side of a cliff yesterday.

The man perched above his dangling glider, seven metres down the cliff face, for more than an hour before climbing, shaken but uninjured, to the safety of Shepherds Hill about 7.10pm.

It is believed he first got into trouble just before 6pm.

The man was checked by paramedics, who abseiled down to his spot on a ledge made greasy from rain.
They talked him through the ordeal, secured him in a harness and then assessed him again when he reached the hill top.
